Jackie and Tim’s December 3, 2023 wedding at Riverside Receptions in Geneva, Illinois, was truly a celebration filled with the magic of Christmas. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Christmas was not simply a theme for their wedding day — it was a story they had created together. They brought loads of Christmas props and decorations from their own homes and incorporated them throughout Riverside Receptions, transforming the already cozy and warm venue into a wonderfully magical winter setting.

As wedding photographers and cinematographers, we are always looking for the little details that can help tell the story of a wedding day, and Jackie and Tim gave us so much to work with. The warm brick, distinctive architecture, surrounding buildings, and intimate enclosure of Riverside Receptions create a setting that can feel almost like a movie set. During the Christmas season, with all the lights, decorations, and holiday details added to the space, the atmosphere becomes even more magical and provides an incredible backdrop for wedding photography.

Jackie’s love for Disney movies brought another beautiful layer to the day. There was a wonderful sense of storytelling throughout the wedding, blending her love of Disney with the warmth and nostalgia of Christmas. The result was a celebration that felt personal, imaginative, and almost fairytale-like without losing the genuine emotion of the day.

And the emotion was everywhere. With hearts like children, Jackie and Tim teared up throughout their wedding ceremony, and their emotions quickly became contagious. We watched their guests become emotional right along with them, and, as their photographers, we found ourselves feeling it too. Those are the moments that make wedding photography so meaningful — the expressions, tears, laughter, and genuine connections that cannot be recreated.

From our conversations before the wedding, Jackie told us that she chose Red Barn Studio because of the quality and style of our work, but also because she was drawn to the idea of having a husband-and-wife photography team.

Tim also came to the wedding with a background in commercial photography, which made being trusted to photograph such an important chapter in their lives especially meaningful to us.
